Spectacular footages shows a rocket bound for the International Space Station being launched from a NASA base.

The resupply spacecraft began its journey at Wallaps Island in Virginia on Sunday, and today reached the station with vital supplies.

It had been due to take off a day earlier, but the launch was aborted after a small plane flew into the restricted airspace around the base.

Following the launch of the Cygnus spacecraft, named the SS Gene Cernan in honour of the last man to walk on the moon, ISS deputy programme manager Dan Hartman said: "It was just a miraculous launch and a flawless countdown."
