A Minnesota state House candidate used a racial slur in a recent campaign video – and he’s not shying away from the decision to do so.
“I want to be your state representative. I want to be your public servant. And I want to be your n-----,” Kyle Greene, an independent, said in his first campaign commercial, which has been posted to his Facebook page.
Greene, whose platform is focused on judicial reform, is running against incumbent Republican Rep. Dean Urdahl in congressional district 18A. His ad stressed “judicial reform" in red letters at the bottom of the screen, though didn't discuss his plan during the 30-second clip.
Greene told The Star Tribune he used the slur in order to have voters focus on “the real issues at hand.”
“We need to unify as a society, and we need to stop dealing with trivial matters. The word … is part of the American history, regardless of the race,” he said. “It’s part of my history being African-American, white and Cherokee Indian.”
A shoplifting suspect caught on charging at grocery store employees in a Santa Ana parking lot has been arrested, officials said Thursday.
Jose Oscar Prado, 32, was booked into jail on Wednesday and was being held on $50,000 bail, Orange County Sheriff's Department records showed.
At around 4 p.m. on June 17, Prado allegedly walked out of the Stater Bros. on 2603 W. 17th Street with a carton of items he did not pay for.
When he started placing the items into his truck, a woman got out of the vehicle and blocked employees who tried to retrieve the merchandise, according to the Santa Ana Police Department.
The agency said Prado "immediately charged at them and pinned one employee against a car."
of the encounter shows a bystander approach Prado and knock him to the ground.
The suspect and the woman eventually got into the truck and fled with the items, police said.
Authorities were searching for the bystander who struck Prado as a possible witness, according to officials.

Lanny Davis, who has been engaged in high-stakes crisis management and political lawyering for decades, says he made a mistake.
CNN, which relied on Davis at least in part for a story he now says is false, won't say it made a mistake.
And the contretemps contains a revealing look at the sausage-making of investigative reporting and the sometimes murky dance between reporters and their unnamed sources.
Davis, who I've found to be a straight shooter over a quarter century dating back to the Clinton scandals, told me in a telephone interview yesterday that he had made an error and regrets it.
"I should not be talking to reporters on background about something I'm not certain about," Davis told me, describing his interactions with CNN reporters. "The combination of big stakes and a big mistake is a bad moment for me. If I had a redo in life, I wouldn't have said anything about the subject."
After initially saying nothing, here is the sum total of CNN's comment: "We stand by our story, and are confident in our reporting of it." A CNN report yesterday said that Davis kept changing his story in his dealings with the network.
Here's the backstory: CNN dropped a bombshell last month by reporting that Davis' client, Michael Cohen, had information that Donald Trump knew in advance of the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between his son, his son-in-law, campaign chairman and a Russian lawyer. "Cohen is willing to make that assertion to special counsel Robert Mueller," according to "the sources," CNN said.
The president has repeatedly denied any advance knowledge of the meeting.

Registered Democrats who support President Donald Trump told CNN its coverage of the president’s administration is a “side show” and that they are glad to see the stock market rise and their retirement savings increase.
CNN aired footage Friday morning of correspondent Jason Carroll speaking with registered Democrats in Pennsylvania praising Trump for improving the economy and looking out for their savings.
Eileen and Richard Sorokas supported former President Barack Obama during both elections, but then switched over and supported Trump because of his promises to improve the economy.
“We’ve got to get the politically correct things out of here and get a business man and get this country straightened out, get the deficit down,” said Richard Sorokas shortly after Trump’s inauguration.
“Our retirement is in the stock market and the stock market has been growing for quite a while now, so I’m sort of happy what’s happening with the economy,” Sorokas said. He also told CNN he thought the focus on Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort’s legal issues is a “side show.”
Tiger Woods on Sunday shot down questions about his relationship with President Donald Trump, urging people to respect the office of the president.
Speaking to reporters after the final round of the U.S. PGA Northern Trust tournament, Woods was asked if he had anything to say regarding his friendly relationship with Trump.
“At times, especially in 2018, I think a lot of people, especially immigrants are threatened by him and his policy — what do you say to people who might find it interesting that you have a friendly relationship with him?” a reporter asked Woods.
“Well, he's the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. And no matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike the personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office,” Woods answered.

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said presidents shouldn’t be recognized for economic recoveries, but then credited former President Barack Obama before trying to take it back.
Scarborough said it’s the small business owners and workers of America who drive the economy and claimed the policies at the top have little to do with it.
“In 30 years of giving speeches … I never once said, I never once suggested, I never once believed that any president was responsible for our economy’s success or failure,” Scarborough said on “Morning Joe” Friday. “At the end of the day, it’s small business owners, it’s people that get up early in the morning, work hard all day, sometimes holding two, three jobs.”
Scarborough told Trump supporters to credit Obama with the current economic bounce-back, before immediately contradicting himself and reversing course.
“I’ve never — again, I’ve never heard anybody remotely conservative say, if not for me, the American economy would be collapsing,” he declared. “And of course, I know that a lot of Donald Trumpists — uh Trumpists don’t want to hear this, but we’re in the middle of a seven-year recovery. So if you’re going to credit presidents, Barack Obama, he may have started this. If you believe that — I don’t.”
“I actually believe that American workers, American small business owners, they’re the ones that make our economy great,” Scarborough concluded.
